Assessment & Evaluation

The Assessment & Evaluation department coordinates the administration and processing of district, state, and federally mandated assessments (listed below), provides training and support for site test coordinators and principals, and ensures that appropriate test preparation and administration procedures are followed at all school sites in order to maintain test security. The Assessment & Evaluation department also assists school sites in the preparation of the School Accountability Report Card (SARC).

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

Parent Guides to Understanding

  • Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAC)

    • These exams test students’ knowledge and skills in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics.

    • Grades 3-8, and 11

  • California Science Test (CAST)

    • This assessment uses questions that bring together science content, practices, and concepts.

    • Grades 5, 8, and once in High School

  • California Spanish Assessment (CSA)

    • The CSA is an optional test that measures students’ knowledge and skills in reading, writing mechanics, and listening in Spanish. 

    •  Grades 3-12 (optional)

English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)

ELPAC is the mandated state test for determining English language proficiency (ELP). It must be given to students of all grade levels whose primary language is one other than English. California and federal law require that local educational agencies administer a state test of ELP to eligible students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. To learn more about ELPAC, click here.

Physical Fitness Test

  • The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is a comprehensive, health-related physical fitness battery of tests for students in California. For more information, click here.

Given throughout the school year, these tests serve the purpose of examining students’ progress. 

College Board

College Board helps students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success — including the SAT and the Advanced Placement Program. To learn more, click here.

College Readiness Assessments

AP (Advanced Placement) Exams

AP gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they’re still in high school and earn college credit and placement. To learn more about AP courses and exams, click here.

PSAT/NMSQT

The PSAT includes questions that focus on skills that matter most for college readiness and success. It consists of a Reading Test, a Writing and Language Test, and a Math Test. SAT

The SAT is a national college admissions exam that helps students navigate their path through high school toward college and career and offers a range of unique benefits. ACT

The ACT is a national college admissions exam that consists of subject area tests in English, Math, Reading, and Science. To learn more about the ACT, click here.

International Baccalaureate (IB) End of Year Exams
