K-8 Test Administrations

The following tests are administered at the 2nd through 8th grades with some being administered in the seventh and eighth grade only:

STAR Tests: STAR testing is a state mandated test that is given to students in grades 2-8 in the spring of each year.  These tests result in a report to parents showing how their child is progressing in meeting California State Standards in each subject tested.  STAR testing results are sent to the parents in late August of each year.  Learn more about STAR Testing....

STAR Writing Tests: STAR Writing is also a state mandated test that is given to students in grades 4 and 7 in the spring of each year before the standard STAR test.  The writing test results are reported with the standard STAR testing information in late August of each year.  Learn more about STAR Testing....

Physical Fitness Test: The California FitnessGram  is a Physical Fitness Test administered to all students in grades 5 and 7.  The state mandated test is used to determine the relative physical fitness of the students enrolled in the California School System.  Learn more about the California Fitnessgram....

Benchmark Tests: These tests are aligned to the California State Standards for each grade level and serve as an indicator of how the students are progressing towards meeting the State Curriculum Standards. Learn more about Benchmark Tests.....

7th & 8th Grade Only

US Constitution Test: Passing the US Constitution test is a requirement for graduating from the 8th grade.  After classroom instruction, 8th grade students are tested on US Constitution concepts at the end of the fall semester.  Students not passing the first US Constitution test are given additional instruction and allowed to take the test early in the spring semester to fulfill their graduation requirement.

Common Finals: These tests are given at the end of each semester (Fall and Spring) in many of the core subject areas to test for course content mastery.

7th & 8th Grade Proficiency: Prior to graduating from the 8th grade in Modesto City Schools, students must show mastery in three areas: reading, math, and writing.  Seventh grade students scoring at a basic level on the 7th grade California Standards Test in these three areas are considered as having met this requirement.  Students who have not met this requirement take the district proficiency tests in: reading, math, and writing during their 8th grade year.
