Virtual Cut and Paste
Many people have asked how to "cut and paste" digital .pdf files that are part of the Holt program.

Step 1: Open the document in Adobe Acrobat Reader
Step 2: If you do not see this icon in your tool bar, right click on the open grey area of the tool bar and select "More tools"

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom of the menu and check the box next to "Snapshot Tool" and then click "Ok"

Step 4: You should now see the Snapshot tool in your toolbar, like this:

Step 5: Set your zoom level to somewhere around 100% if you are going to print your final product, or around 200% if you are going to use it in a PowerPoint or other digital format.

Step 6: Select the "Snapshot" tool and you will notice your icon turns to a cross hair.  Hold down your left mouse button and drag a box around what you would like to "cut and paste":

Step 7:  You will get a message saying that the image has been copied to your clipboard.  You can now go into Word or PowerPoint (or any other program) and paste the image into the document.

*Please note, you only have to add the Snapshot tool your first time, after that it should always be there.  Also, this is a kin to cutting a problem out of a book, so these problems are not editable.  They are just pictures.

Uploading to the SharePoint
The math SharePoint site is a great place to look for and share files with other math teachers.

If you would like to upload items you have made, just follow these steps.

Step 1: Navigate to the folder you would like to upload the document to. (For example, Financial Math Chapter 3).

Step 2: Select the "Upload Document" from the menu bar.

Step 3: Select "Choose File" and then navigate within your computer files to find the document you would like to share.  Also, feel free to add a description to the document so that others will know what it contains.

Step 4: Select "Save and Close" to return to the folder you had selected.  Notice now that the document you added is now part of the list.

Lockers
A high school has a strange principal. On the first day, he has his students perform an odd opening day ceremony:

There are one thousand lockers and one thousand students in the school. The principal asks the first student to go to every locker and open it. Then he has the second student go to every second locker and close it. The third goes to every third locker and, if it is closed, he opens it, and if it is open, he closes it. The fourth student does this to every fourth locker, and so on. After the process is completed with the thousandth student, how many lockers are open?

Thank you to all who have welcomed me into your classrooms.  I have had the great opportunity to be in and about different sites this past month and I have seen a great deal of cool things happening.

Several teachers are using the Holt Online piece to add to their differentiation in their Algebra Support classes.

If you would like to know more about what Holt Online has to offer you, or if you would like a soundboard to bounce ideas off of, please contact me and I will meet you at your convenience.
